Los Angeles Police Protective League Recommends Judge Debra Archuleta for District Attorney

The LA Police Protective League joins other law enforcement organizations supporting Archuleta for DA

The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), the union representing 9,200 Los Angeles Police Department officers, announced its recommendation of Judge Debra Archuleta to become the next District Attorney of Los Angeles County.

“This recommendation by the proud men and women of the LAPD is deeply meaningful,” said Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Debra Archuleta, candidate for Los Angeles County District Attorney.  “As District Attorney, one of my key priorities is rebuilding the once-strong partnership between the DA’s Office and our law enforcement.  We are not safer now than we were three years ago when George Gascón took office.  I look forward to partnering with law enforcement to reverse his ill-conceived directives and let victims of crime know that they once again have an advocate in the District Attorney’s Office.  I am grateful for the LAPPL’s support in recognition of my commitment to the people of LA County throughout my 26-year career as a Deputy District Attorney and 7-year career as a Judge.”

The Los Angeles Police Protective League recommended Judge Debra Archuleta for Los Angeles County District Attorney, along with one other candidate, following an exhaustive multi-step process that included written questionnaires, candidate interviews, membership surveys, and extensive vetting of candidates, including the sitting District Attorney.

Judge Debra Archuleta first worked in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as a law clerk while attending law school at nights and on the weekends.  She began her career as a Deputy District Attorney in June 1991, prosecuting thousands of cases and over 100 trials involving homicide, sex crimes, child abuse, gang violence, and other extremely serious crimes.  In addition, Archuleta advocated on behalf of victims and their families at over 150 parole board hearings throughout California to keep violent offenders behind bars.  Judge Archuleta left the Office upon her election to the Superior Court in November 2016 and has spent the last seven years serving the County of Los Angeles as a Judge, splitting her time between criminal court and juvenile dependency court.

Debra is married to Jay, a retired LAUSD music teacher and professional saxophonist.  Her daughter, Alyssa, is a law student, and her son, Jake, works as an EMT and aspires to join a local fire department.  In her spare time, Debra likes to read, travel, and play pickleball.
